Just processed the second batch of proposals, and without further ado, here they are:

A ball can change the world by Nina Terol-Zialcita (www.ninaterol.com) — The Homeless World Cup is an annual street soccer tournament that helps give homeless people a second shot at life. This presentation shows scenes and lessons from the 2009 Homeless World Cup held in Milan, Italy, where Team Philippines came out the best in Asia and was the most improved program out of 48 countries.

Recycle music. Recycle life. by Paul Zialcita (http://paulzialcita.multiply.com) — This talk shows how powerful and stirring music can come from a lowly five-gallon mineral water bottle, producing tunes that can rival even the most sophisticated instruments. Through this, and through the Aquadrummerz program, impoverished youth are regaining their dignity and confidence and are learning that, just like water bottles, lives can be recycled, too.

DIY Music Production On A Low Budget by Erick A. Fabian Sr. (http://myspace.com/cerumentric) — A little research, creativity, resourcefulness and self-ingenuity is all that one needs to start building their own bedroom music studios and start making high-quality music, and eventually release their own albums. It is all possible with the availability of free music software from the Internet, low cost of computers and the emergence of DIY musicians who make their own instruments and discover new sounds using ‘circuit-bending’.

Beep beep! Heto na ang Jeepney! by Therese Panganiban (www.thejeepney.com) — “The Jeepney Magazine” is the first street paper in the Philippines, and in developing Asia. Street papers are publications sold by homeless / marginalized people, wherein 50 – 90% of the papers’ cover price goes directly to them. The Jeepney Magazine has two main goals: The first is the presentation of the stories and hearts of the Filipino poor. It is our intent to communicate the needs, struggles and more importantly, the victories in the midst of those struggles, of homeless people, to an audience that can make change happen. The second is the provision of jobs, with dignity, meeting or exceeding the Philippine minimum wage. The provision of jobs, is modeled by the over two hundred autonomous street papers in the world today. It is our goal for each of our vendors to sell a minimum of ten magazines a day, giving them an income exceeding, by forty percent, the Philippine minimum wage.

Out of this list we'll be choosing the remaining 8 slots to round out the speakers for Ignite Manila 1 . . .

The site has been live for only a couple of days and already we’ve received our first batch of proposals. Thanks for the support! Out of this list we’ll be choosing the remaining 8 slots to round out the speakers for Ignite Manila 1. We’ll be asking the Ignite Manila community — that’s you — to choose from this diverse and interesting pool of potential presentations, so keep checking this page as new proposals are processed. Here’s the first batch of processed proposals:

7107 Reasons to Love Pinas by Alvin Gale Tan (7107reasons.com)I’ll be talking about a fairly new project wherein the ultimate goal is to accumulate “7107 Reasons to Love Pinas”. Literally, 7107 unique reasons! From big stuff like Lupang Hinirang to Dr. Jose Rizal to jeepneys to dirty ice cream (yummy!).The rationale behind it is: the more reasons we have to love our motherland, the more we’ll appreciate and take care of her.I’ll share some thoughts on how Pinoys who care – wherever they are in the world – may contribute to this ambitious collaborative project.

be aware and be concern about our environment by maria gracia nicolas (http://www.aghomebuilders.com)This will be for the awareness of everyone about our only environment which is our life, on how to manage waste and prevent pollution. goal is to become aware and then at the end of the talk, the listener will be concerned.

KKK= kababaihan, kaya at karapat dapat(women, can and deserving) by maria gracia nicolas (http://www.aghb.multiply.com)if others can why cant all the women in philippines. i am a project engineer and surrounded by men everyday who are working with me, i am the boss and i am the leader. this is about women in philippines who have inferiority complex, who are thinking that they cannot do thing on their own and this is about equality.

What do you think? Leave us a comment below. Think you can do better? Then submit your own proposal now!

Calling all speakers! Calling all speakers! We're now accepting talk proposals for Ignite Manila 1, which will be part of the Global Ignite Week.

We already have several exciting talks lined up (more about that in a future post), but we still have 8 remaining slots, so . . .

Calling all speakers! Calling all speakers! We’re now accepting talk proposals for Ignite Manila 1, which will be part of the Global Ignite Week. Which means that if you wow us, you can share your passion with the world, as Ignite features the best international talks on their site and Youtube channel.

But the most important thing is that for one night, for 5 minutes, you get a chance to educate and entertain fellow Filipinos about what you love. Don’t worry about it being interesting to others. If you love it that much, chances are in some way, the audience will, too, and interesting will take care of itself.

So start brainstorming potential topics! You can submit more than one proposal — if you have many loves — but only one talk per speaker will be chosen (we want variety, not only in topics, but in people). But you already know what you want to talk about, don’t you? And chances are, you’ve already talked about this topic with your friends, coworkers, and loved ones hundreds of times. What’s five minutes?

Excited? Take a deep breath, and submit your proposal now. There are only eight slots remaining, but don’t worry. There’s will be more Ignites this year. (Though they won’t be part of the first Global Ignite Week

I just finished adding the content, tweaking the design, and adding the plugins for version one of the Ignite Manila site. There’s still a lot to do — add pictures, embed videos, write more posts — but for now it’s good enough to forward to friends. And most importantly, to start getting submissions for potential speakers. Hope you like it!

I'm excited about bringing Ignite to all the geeks here in the Philippines -- and there are a lot.

Hi guys,

I’m Red, a communications and design consultant from Manila. I’m excited about bringing Ignite to all the geeks here in the Philippines — and there are a lot.

It’ll be held during GIW on March 4. I still have to take care of the venue, but I already have some prospects, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I already have some geeks lined up to present — a Go (the board game) geek, an astronomy geek, and a trivia geek — as well as some who can be considered geeks based on their passion for their advocacies — AIDS awareness, reproductive health, national pride.

If you’d like to support the event by presenting or sponsoring, please send an email to redtani at gmail dot com .

For updates, please follow us on twitter @IgniteManila and stay tuned to this blog for more details soon.

And congratulations to all involved with Ignite! I look forward to helping this community grow through our own Ignite events next year.
